Underlined teams means I received at least one preview from the team. Information for teams that aren't underlined are mostly based on last year's team results. Times given are from Saratoga State Park unless noted.

Foothills Council Boys

Queensbury is once again the big favorites to repeat as league champions with five runners returning in the league's top ten. Broadalbin-Perth lost a bunch to graduation but still have enough depth left over to hang on for second ahead of a mostly young Scotia-Glenville team and a more experienced Glens Falls team. South Glens Falls and Gloversville will battle it out for fifth. Gloversville has the solid top two but South Glens Falls has the better depth.

Individually, it looks like a two man battle between Gloversville's John Knox and Queensbury' Troy Kelly. Both were about two seconds apart last year and are about 15 seconds ahead of everyone else. Other spoilers could be Queensbury's Ben Anderson, Broadalbin-Perth's Greg Bodgan, Gloversville's Alex Gifford, and Scotia-Glenville's Chris LaCoss.

Queensbury returns four out of their  top seven but also had the top six J.V runners in the league championships. Senior Troy Kelly should be their top runner and was in the mid 16's last year. I suspect he was nursing an injury last year as it looked like he slowed down during the season last year. Senior Ben Anderson is their second runners and wasn't too far behind Kelly. Senior Alex Castonguay and was in the high 16's last year. Their fourth and fifth runners, Junior Zane Belden and Senior Ben Baker were both in the mid 17's and give the team the depth that they need. As always, Queensbury has the best depth in the league. They have six runners retuning that were under 17 minutes last year. Only one other team in the league has as many as four runners. It will be tough for any team to catch them.

Broadalbin-Perth return four out of seven runners from last year, including their top two runners and three out of four. Junior Greg Bogdan is a solid number one. He was in the mid 16's last year and should improve after a solid spring. Senior Matthew Dyer is their second runner. He was in the mid 17's and was about 45 seconds behind Bogdan. Senior Patrick Brown is third and was just under 18 minutes last year. Senior Nicolai Murphy is their fourth runner and was in the mid 19 minute range last year. Freshman Alex Hitrick should finish out their top five and was in the mid 18's last year. Even with all of the graduations they still have a solid team but the spreads are a little large that they will want to close. Even if they do that they will still have a tough time beating Queensbury.

Scotia-Glenville returns four of seven from last year.  Senior Chris LaCoss returns as their number one runner. He was in the mid 16's last year and should be one of the top runners in the league this year. Sophomore Matt Forshey has moved up to the second spot on the team and was in the low 19's last year. Freshman moves up from last year's modified team and will be their third runner this year. Freshman Grant Norton is the fourth runner and was in the high 17's last year. Junior Nick Painter was in the mid 18's and is their fifth runner this year. They have a mostly young teams this year with help from their modified team that won the team title at the league championships last year. The team will depend on how quickly their younger runners develop during the season.

Glens Falls loses their top two runners and three out of their top four from last year. Seniors Ben Collins and Josh Lee take over the mantle as their top runners. He was in the mid  to high 17's last year. Seniors Joe Nichols and Brian Hughes should take the next two spots and they were both in the low to mid 18 minute range last year. Their fifth runner should be a fight between Senior Justice Spear and Ryan Justin as they were both in the high 18's last year. They have a decent spread but will want to cut the spread between their fourth and fifth runner and they could possibly move up to second or third in the league.

South Glens Falls returns five out of seven from last year. Junior James Stone is their top returning runner, running in the mid 17's last year. Senior John Tarantino and Sophomore Matt Jenkins should be their second and third runners, both running in the low to mid 18's. About 30 seconds behind should be Sophomores Zach Morris and Nate Salazar. Though I have them in fifth they are not that far back from third place. Some improvements and cutting the spread between their top three and their fourth and fifth could bring them up significantly.

Gloversville is the only team that brings back their entire top seven from last year. they have arguably the best one-two punch in the league with Seniors John Knox and Alex Gifford, both runners were in the mid 16's last year. Knox could show a big improvement from last year after running a 9:34 in the 3200 meters last Spring. Gloversville's third and fourth are more than two minutes back as Junior Hunter Marshall and Sophomore Jack Hayes were in the mid to high 18 minute range last year. Closing their scoring should be Sophomore Phil Meyer, who was in the mid 19's last year. Like South Glens Falls,  I have them sixth but with that 1-2 punch they have they could move way up in the league standings but the gap between their top two and the rest of the top five has to close by a large amount.

Johnstown returns four out of their top seven from last year led by their top runner, Junior Daeshan Buseck who was in the mid 17's last year. Their next two runners are 90 seconds behind as Sophomores Tyler Askew and Cam Roten was in the high 18's last year. Senior Eric Brower should be their fourth runner and was in the mid 19's last year. Their fifth runner last year was over 21 minutes. If Johnstown want to improve they will need that gap closed between Buseck and and the rest of the team considerably. They will also need a fifth runner that is much closer to the their fourth.

Hudson Falls only had four runners last year and return three. Senior Zach Porlier should be their top runner and was in the mid 17's last year. Junior Jason Linendoll is their second runner and was in the high 18's. Senior Zach VanEvery completes their team and was in the mid 20 minute range last year. Not sure if they'll be complete this year but they won't get any help from last year's modified since their top two runners were both 7th graders.

Foothills Council Girls

Queensbury is once again the overwhelming favorite with the top four time times returning in the league. Scotia-Glenville loses their top runner but returns everyone else and should be far ahead for second place with three runners in the top team of returning league runners. Broadalbin-Perth, like their boys team, was hit the hardest by graduation but their depth from last year should be enough for third. Gloversville has been a team on the rise the last couple of year and should battle Glens Falls for the fourth spot.

Individually you can pick any of the top four runners from Queensbury. Freshmen Sherri Metcalf and Tyra Wynn were the only returning runners under 19 minutes last year with Senior Taylor Mueller and Junior Megan Kellogg looking to challenge them.

Queensbury returns four out of their top seven from last year, losing their top runner and state qualifier Jolie Navatka. Freshmen Sherri Metcalf and Tyra Wynn should be their top runners as they were in the mid to high 18's last year. Senior Taylor Mueller was in the the low 19's and should be their third runner. Junior Megan Kellogg and Sophomore Emily Guinther were in the mid 19 minute range last year and should be their fourth and fifth runners. Queensbury shouldn't have a problem since they have the top four best times returning in the league and only one runner is ahead of their fifth. Add to that the fact that no team can match their depth and it should be an easy time for Queensbury to repeat as league champions.

Scotia-Glenville returns six out of seven from last year. Unfortunately the one they lose was their top runner, Becky Celorio. Still, they have a solid top two with Seniors Becca Kraines and Emily Houlihan as both were in the mid to high 19's last year and are the only returning runners in the league that were under 20 minutes that didn't have a "Q" on their jersey. Senior Miranda Gilgore and Sophomore Cara Zanta should be their third and fourth runners. Both runners were in the low to mid 20 minute range last year. Fighting for the fifth spot will be Seniors Josie Zeppetelli and Julia Lindsay both runners were in the mid 20's and only a couple seconds apart from each other. Scotia looks to be safely in the driver's seat for second place in the league, but catching Queensbury will be a tall task as the Spartans have four runners in front of Scotia's number one.

Broadalbin-Perth was hit the hardest by graduation, losing their top two runners and four out of their top five from last year. Leading this year's team is Sophomore Coreena Monroe who was just over 20 minutes last year. Sophomore Victoria O'Palka moves up to their second runner this year and was in the mid 21's last year. Senior Mackenzie Ottati is their third runner and was in the high 20 minute range last year. Sophomore Sarah Naple is their fourth runner and was in the high 20 minute range last year. Freshman Montana Smith moves up from modified and right into the fifth position. The team is not as deep as they've been in the past and really can't afford any injuries. Their top five is solid but will have a tough time against Queensbury and Scotia.

Gloversville loses their top runner from last year, Kellie Lawton, but return the rest of the top seven from last year. Freshman Morgan Reinhardt takes over the number one spot as she was in the mid 20's last year. Sophomore Emily Ambrosino should be their number two. She was just over 21 minutes last year. Their third and fourth runners, Juniors Haley Schuyler and Alicia Anich were both in the mid 21 range last year and Sophomore Sara Ambrosino should be their fifth runners and is only about 10 seconds behind. They have a 70 second spread which is pretty good but they'll need to move that pack up a little if they want to challenge Broadalbin-Perth for third. With no seniors in their top seven they're probably a year away.

Glens Falls returns all six runners that they had last year. Senior Allyce Morrissey returns as their top runner with a mid 20 minute run last year. Sophomore Bri Collins should be the number two runner and was in the low 21's last year. Senior Bridget Resse should be their third runner and was in the high 21 minute range. Sophomore Erin Burchfield comes in as their number four runner and was about a minute behind. Their fifth runner, Senior Tori Agnew was in the mid 24 minute range last year. They will need those gaps between their third and fourth runners to close and a big improvement with their fifth runner if they want to move up in the league.

South Glens Falls lose their top runner, Kelly Styczynski to graduation (which means I never have to spell that name again!) but return the rest of their top seven from last year. Junior Kimberly Braken takes over as their top runner and was in the mid 21's last year. Junior Sara Billings should be their number two runner and was right at 22 minutes last year. Their third and fourth runners, Junior Kaitlyn Hansen and Senior Kyra Pavelchak come in as their third and fourth runners but were more that a minute and a half behind Billings, running in the high 23 minute range. Their fifth and sixth runners were both over 26 minutes last year. The gap between their third and fourth and the huge gap between their fourth and fifth have to close considerably if they have any chance of moving up. They had a bunch of 7th grader on modified last year but I'm not sure they will bring any of them up this year.

Hudson Falls returns five out of their top seven but lose two out of their top three. Senior Emily Forcier should be their top runner coming back in just under 23 minutes last year. Junior Lauren Tyler should be their number two and was in the mid 23's last year with Senior Gabby Beard, number three, about a minute back.  After their top three their fourth and fifth were both over 28 minutes last year. Those times from their fourth and fifth really need to improve if they want to be competitive but with no significant modified runner coming up I'm not sure how they'll do it.

Johnstown only had four runners last year but return them all. Seniors Alyssa Henry and Quincey Brabent should be their top two runners this year. Henry was in the low 23's last year and Brabent was about a minute behind. Senior Emily Fettinger was just under 26 minutes last year and should be their third runner and Junior Morgan Swedick as their number four was about 40 seconds behind. I'm not sure if they'll be complete this year as they had no modified runners last year. If they do then they'll still have a tough time moving up. Maybe up one place but that's about it.
