Girls Sectional Preview

Note: As I say every year, this is just a projection. It's pretty much everyone's best Saratoga State Park times and some adjustments where I felt it was needed. I have no knowledge of runners that are out injured so I included just about everyone that has run but I have left out some runners that have been out for multiple weeks.

Girls: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D

Girls Class A - 2:00pm

What to looks for: Saratoga Springs has won 16 straight sectional titles but they will come in as the underdog for number 17 this year as Shenendehowa has been putting up better results all season, topping it off with an 11 point win at Suburbans last week. I would never count Saratoga out but Shen has a strong 4th and 5th runner right now and should be the difference in the race. Don't count Niskayuna out as they were only 6 points behind Saratoga last week. Individually, Saratoga's Kelsey Chmiel is a huge favorite as she beat Spiers last week by almost 40 seconds and also happens to own the course record.

Girls Class B - 2:30pm

What to looks for: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake looks to be a slight favorite over Mohonasen and take their fourth straight title, but Mohonasen did beat them last week at Suburbans, though both teams were not at full strength. It will be close with one strong or weak race by any runners in their top five could determine the outcome of the race. Though Queensbury looks to be a step behind, I wouldn't count them out come sectional time. Individually, Burnt Hills' Rory Graham comes in with the best time but Amsterdam's Olivia Lazarou and Mohonasen's Kate Sherman aren't far behind.

Girls Class C - 1:00pm

What to looks for: Schuylerville looks to be a little bit solid than the rest of the teams that should lead them to their first sectional title since 2012. The fight looks for second with Cobleskill-Richmondville, Greenville, and Duanesburg, moving up from Class D, are in a tight pack and could upset if Schuylerville falters. Individually, it looks to be a two person battle between Duanesburg's Elaine Atanasova and Greenville's Tess Fitzmaurice. Fitzmaurice didn't run at Patroons but I'll assume she'll be running. Atanasova has the best time at Saratoga by 11 seconds but both runners' league championships are run elsewhere.

Girls Class D - 1:30pm

What to looks for: Greenwich has won two straight state titles and 13 straight sectional titles and should be a huge favorite for their 14th straight sectional title as their top five are all in the top seven runners. Tight race for second place and Chatham, Maple Hill, Canajoharie/Fort Plain, and Hoosic Valley are all in the mix for the runner-up plaque. Individually, Greenwich's Brynne Wright is the defending champion and state runner-up last year and is the favorite but Mayfield one runner team of Madison Relyea has been running real strong all year and will offer a strong challenge.
