New York State Championships - Results

 

Section 2 Updates

Class D Girls: Mayfield's Madison Relyea was the top finisher for section 2 finishing in 5th place in 19:33. Duanesburg finished 5th with 103 points, led by Elaine Atanasova (14th,20:24.8) and Jen Skeeter (27th,21:22.1). Hoosic Valley's Lily Czub (17th,20:38.6) also medaled for Section 2. Section 3's Tully won the state title over Maple Grove 45-50. Defending champion Brooke Rauber won her 2nd straight title to lead Tully.

Class A Girls: Saratoga edges out Fayetteville-Manlius by one point, 46-47, to win their first state championship since 2005. Saratoga was led by a runner-up finish by Kelsey Chmiel (17:20.6) and Ella Kurto (6th,18:35.3). Ballston Spa's Faith Demars (11th,19:04.1) also medaled for Section 2. North Rockland's Katelyn Touhey repeated as state champion, finishing in 17:02.1.

Class B Girls: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake finished 4th and were led by top 20 finishes by Rory Graham (19th,19:48.0) and Emily Berg (20th,19:52.2). Mohonasen's Kate Sherman was Section 2's top runner, finishing in 16th place in 19:41.4. Section 9's Cornwall win the team title 62-68 over John Jay-Cross River. Sarah Connelly from Mount Sinai was the individual champion, finishing in 18:17.7.

Class C Girls: Greenwich placed four in the top 10 to easily win the the Class C title over Bronxville 38-105. Greenwich was led by a 3rd place finish by Brynne Wright, finishing in 19:12.7. Also finishing in the top 10 were Nina Sgambelluri (7th,19:51.5), Teagan Wright (9th,19:58.9), and Emma Cronin (10th,20:00.1). Schuylerville's Sunni LaBounty (15th,20:20.0) also medaled for Section 2 and led Section 2 to the Section team title. Clinton's Eva Borton win the team title, finishing in  18:24.3, 40 seconds ahead of Ava Jolley of North Salem.

Class D Boys: Maple Hill finished 8th in the team standings and were led by Noah Albanese (24th,18:06.). North Warren/Johnsburg's Brandon Olden was the top Section 2 runner finishing in 7th place in 17:18.0. Section 3's Beaver River repeated as State Champions by beating Male Grove for the 2nd year in a row, 32-87. Shelter Island's Kal Lewis defending his state title finishing in 16:23.3, 14 seconds ahead of Beaver River's Colton Kempney.

Class A Boys: Saratoga's Shea Weilbaker wins the state title in 15:52.0, ten seconds ahead of Fayetteville-Manlius' (and former Saratoga runner) Geoff Howles. Weilbaker is the first Section 2 runner to win a Class A title since Shenendehowa's Steve Murdock in 2006. Weilbaker has now has state titles in all three seasons after winning the 3200m titles last year in indoor and outdoor track. Teammate Ezra Ruggles (19th,16:35.1) and Niskayuna's Marty Dolan (20th,16:36.1) also medaled for Section 2. Shenendehowa placed 4th in the team race with 104 points. The Plainsmen were led by Alex Hislop's 28th place in 16:50.9. Fayetteville Manlius place five in the top 10 to easily win the team title over Corning 25-87.

Class B Boys: Burnt Hills' Tyler Berg wins the state title and leads his team to their 3rd straight state title. Berg won the title in 15:52.4 beating out Maine-Endwell's Parker Stokes by five seconds in what some people billed as the race to watch at States. He is the first runner to win a Boys Class B title since Otis Ubriaco, also of Burnt Hills in 2009. Burnt Hills placed four in the top twelve to easily defend their team title over Pearl River 22-96. Placing in the top 20 with Berg were Aidan Gillooley (4th,16:12.5), Evan Brennan (9th,16:33.7), and Nick Hunziker (12th,16:50.). Schalmont's Antonio Beltran (17th,16:59.5) also medaled for Section 2 which won the sectionals team title too.

Class C Boys: Voorheesville's Evan Ensslin finished in 10th place in 16:59.4 and was the top runner from Section 2. Rensselaer/Doane Stuart's Henry Goca (16th,17:20.7) also medaled for Section 2. LaSalle finished in 7th place with 171 points. The Cadets were led by Gitch Hayes (33rd,17:49.6) and Joe Marchese (51st,18:08.9). Bronxville's Matthew Rizzo won the individual title in 16:22.2 and Section 7's Saranac Lake easily won the team title over Section 3's Westhill 31-83.

-Champlain Valley, led by a 1-2 finish, take the girls team title over Bethlehem 39-59. Champlain Valley was led by individual winner Alice Larson who finished in 18:38.9, 11 seconds ahead of teammate Ella Whitman. Shaker Kayleigh Higgins took 3rd place. Bethlehem was led by top 10 finishes by Gillian Roeder (4th,19:18.1), Rachel Hodge (6th,19:40.), and Rylee Davis (7th,19:44.7).

-Shaker places three in the top ten to wwin the boys team title over Champlain Valley 52-62. Shaker was led by a 3rd place finish by T.J. Randall, who finished in 16:41.6. Vinny Levchenko (9th,17:23.3) and Francisco Mendonca (10th,17:27.4) also finished in the top 10 for the Blue Bison. Niskayuna's Thomas Ragone wins the individual title in 16:05.5, 10 seconds ahead of Bethlehem's Matt Cavaliere.

Aiden Gillooley wins the boys title, leading Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to a 1-6 sweep. Tyler Berg and Evan Brennan finish right with him

Mayfield's Madison Relyea repeats as champion by 30 seconds over Emily Berg of Burnt Hills, with Rory Graham and Jamison Vendetti taking 3rd and 4th.
