2021 Cross Country
Boys Sectional Preview |
Note: As I say every year, this is just a projection. It's pretty much everyone's best Saratoga State Park times and some adjustments where I felt it was needed. I have no knowledge of runners that are out injured so I included just about everyone that has run but I have left out some runners that have been out for multiple weeks.
Boys: Class A, Class B, Class C, Class D
Boys Class A - 2:30pm
What to Look For: Should be a tight race between Shenendehowa and Niskayuna. Last weekend Niskayuna edged out Shen for second place behind Burnt Hills by seven points at Suburbans. The big question mark is Shen's Nathan Brimhall, who last ran on September 28th. I was going to leave him out but he is listed on Shen's roster for Sectionals, so there is a possiblilty that he runs. What kind of shape he'll be in is another question mark. With Brimhall in the lineup I give Shenendehowa a double digit win. Without him I have it Shenenedehowa 49 Niskayuna 51. Either way it should be a close one...Individually looks to be a a battle between Niskayuna's Julien Franjieh and Saratoga's Ryan Bush. Franjieh took the win last week at Suburbans and should be the slight favorite.

Boys Class B - 1:00pm
What to Look For: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake is coming off a big win at Suburbans last weekend, has five of the top eight times and is a big favorite for another sectional title. The big battle will be for second between Queensbury, Scotia-Glenville, and Averill Park with C.B.A. being a dark horse. Queensbury should have the edge off of their Foothills Council championship over Scotia-Glenville...Individually, LaSalle's Gitch Hayes comes in as the top runner in the State, accoring to tullyrunners and is the big favorite to win the Class B title after winning the Class C title in 2019. Burnt Hills' Peter Fulgieri and Scotia-Glenville's Tyler Greene should battle it out for second.

Boys Class C -1:30pm
What to Look For: Fonda-Fultonville started the season out slow, running incomplete at the begining of the season, but now look to be at full strength and are big favorites to defend their title from 2019. Schuylerville and Stillwater look to battle it out for second with Schuylerville getting the slight edge, but they'll both need their fourth and fifth runners to improve if they want to challenge for the sectional title...Individually, Fonda-Fultonville's Bennett Melita is a big favorite for the title, as he is almost a minute ahead of his teammate Ty Sanges. Stillwater's, Anthony Zazzaro is the only other runner that's been under seventeen minutes this season. if Melita wins he'll be Fonda-Fultonville's first individual champion since Matt Hoffman in 2012.

Boys Class D - 2:00pm
What to Look For: Mayfield has two of the top three runners, and also the most depth which gives them a good edge to win their first sectionals championship since 2010. There is a logjam between five teams for second place with Lake George getting the slight edge over Maple Hill, Chatham, Hoosic Valley, and North Warren/Johnsburg/Minerva...Individually it looks to be a tight race between Chatham's Brycen Haner and Mayfield's Cameron Abdella. Haner has the edge but only by four seconds so it could be a close one. Haner would be Chatham's first champion since Nick Sarro in 2012 and Abdella would be Mayfield's first champion since Nick Munson in 2000.
